Britax Chaperone Carrier, Savannah
I appreciate the quality of britax products. I have several other Britax models for my 5yr, 4yr and 2yr olds. I have had some issues with them but I still like Britax. I bought the chaperone when expecting my newest addition. I researched seats endlessly for 2 months. I read the good and bad on the chaperone, but in the end I bought it for the true SIP and anti-rebound bar.
I was concerned about the seat and base fitting in my vehicle. It works, though the front seat is moved forward some in my Chrysler Town and Country. One major flaw I found with the base is the adjustable leveling foot that is used to achieve the proper recline for the seat. The seat in my minivan is a captain's chair, therefore, there is a significant angle to the seat that has to be overcome for proper carrier recline. The problem for me was that when the foot is nearly fully extended down, it caused the base to become very unstable. The base could then slide side to side too easily. This foot is not the same quality as the base, in my opinion. I rectified this by not using the foot and instead using a pool noodle for leveling.
I will say that the seat is 3-4 pounds heavier than many other carriers. At first it was no big deal, but as baby grows, the weight along with the longer size of the seat can at times be a burden. Because the seat is longer, it is also sometimes an effort to maneuver through doorways at stores if there isn't anyone to hold the door for you.
Also, the longer size of the carrier does cause the top head end to fall backwards both with and without baby in it. I have to put the seat up against something (wall or in a chair# while strapping baby in.
As for the newborn insert, it was useful for about two weeks. But my son was born just shy of 7 pounds and it still seemed to make it more difficult #tight) to strap him in.
The release button for the tightening strap located under the material between the legs can be difficult to locate blindly with the fingers, as it seems to be set a little too far back. But not too big a deal.
The canopy covers about half the carrier and has velcro tabs at the head end. My complaint would be that it does'nt always stay in place, and when extended it does get in the way of the carry handle.
When removing the carrier from the base you do have to pull straight up. This is not a problem for me in my minivan.
The carrier drops into the base with ease for me.
The strap height adjustment is easy to use. And it is also very easy to strap my son into the seat as well as to take him out. I am however, somewhat concerned about the seat width, as my son grows it may become a squeeze as my children tend to be well filled out!
I have the cow print Chaperone. At first I

After doing so much research, the Britax brand seemed to be the best option for us. Britax was rated one of the best car seats for the Honda Accord (which is what we have) so I started comparing the different Britax models. Since we live with limited storage space in the city, I went straight for the convertible style car seat, rather than starting off with the detachable infant seat with base style. Less "stuff" in our lives!
My daughter was born 8 lbs-9 oz and it worked really well for her starting from the trip home from the hospital. The fabric is incredibly soft and easily cleans up even after she had an "exorcist spit-up moment"! The seat itself is really comfortable. Our daughter falls asleep virtually everytime she is in her car seat. It has also worked well on long road trips to grandpa and grandma's house. I really like the button to release or tighten the straps - makes for easy adjustments since babies grow so fast and the spring weather makes for different clothing layers day to day. The velcro on the straps is so helpful to keep the straps in place while putting our daughter in her car seat - no digging underneath her to find them!
This car seat is a bit higher in price than other options, but it has been well worth it for us. Although we cannot comment on its effectiveness during an auto accident, we are very happy with the quality of this car seat. More importantly our daughter loves it as well!

Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat, Onyx
...besides the title........
Our 8 month old out grew her baby seat quick, so we began researching car seats. After about a week of looking at everything from consumer reports to amazon.com we decided to go with the Marathon. It's a great seat so far.
PROS:
- Not super bulky like the more expensive britax ones and works like a champ.
- Easy it is to get her in and out of it.
- Fits in Subaru Outback Wagon well (i am tall and have the drives seat all the way back, no issues unless you are a gangster and need the seat back flat against the rear seats.)
- Easy to clean off spit up.
- Solid and well made.
- Easy to fasten into a variety of cars with built in child seat "clips."
- Safe.
CONS:
- Her legs cannot stretch out. (I didn't read a review about any of the car seats we looked at without this problem, so take this with a grain of salt.)
- We cannot see her without getting one of those Parent Mirrors. It's a tall seat!
- Doesn't fit very well into cars with a lapbelt only option. We have an older F250 truck with a lapbelt in the center, and for the life of me I cannot get it super snug like I can in the Subaru. I've tried a few different things.
OTHER CAR SEATS WE CONSIDERED:
- Sunshine Kids Radian65SL - Nice and Narrow! Steel Frame! (Almost bought this one. Coin flip. # of + reviews for marathon is why we chose it.)
- Cosco Scenera Convertible Car Seat - Not very comfy looking, but cheap! Great buy for sure.
OVERALL:
4 stars due to the leg thing, but overall, we are stoked on this purchase.
